"In the pre-adhesive period the hand-stamp generally found (though it is not common) is the straight-line seriffed 'BAHAMAS' which measures 35 mm. long and each letter measuring 3½ mm. Recently I had the pleasure of seeing our Vice-President Dr. R. H. Urwick's collection of Bahamas and he has what I consider the rarer type with the small 'BAHAMAS', the length of which is only 22½ mm. It is on a cover dated from Nassau 9th March 1836, arriving in London on 6th June 1836. I shall be very interested to hear if any other member posses any earlier date for this small hand-stamp."
