"In my collection I have a copy of the Q.V. 2½d. of the 1883-4 issue which bears, in addition to the California town mark, part of an additional boxed mark - 'BAY.86'. It has always intrigued me and I am wondering whether it emanated from a neighbouring island. I shall be most interested to know whether any other member possesses an example and can furnish an explanation of its origin."
